Savvy Fashion Basics

We all view the world based upon our past experiences, beliefs, prejudices, needs and emotional states. - Dr. Joe Rubino

How do you view the world of fashion? No two persons, think, dress, or feel the same way about fashions. So, how would you build a wardrobe based on your awareness of what feels right to you? What is an acceptable fashion style to you? Your style may not be the same as that of a close relative, your neighbor or a co-worker.

How do you sort the clothing in your wardrobe? By the colors you like? By the different seasons? By your fabric choices? Or, by your style? Any one of these arrangements is acceptable. And since the items in a basic wardrobe are usually made up of a small number of clothes that can be mixed and matched with each other, a commitment to careful planning is required.

A commitment to do the bare minimum of actions everyday toward keeping your clothing in wearable, tip-top shape is essential. And being consistent in your daily wardrobe care is a worthwhile achievement. Here are a few points to consider.

o Sorting by Your Color Choices

Aside from having a closet full of clothing in your favorite color, the basic colors are black, brown, neutrals (like, tan gray and beige), and navy. These basic colors can be worn and contrasted with white and most other light shades of color.

Since black is considered the most basic of the colors, it needs the most care to keep it looking fresh and elegant. When wearing black, make sure your make-up is glowing and cheerful.

The warm and rich color of brown flatters the skin and hair. The many shades of brown may not all be worn together, and requires caution in matching the different tones.

Clothing in the neutral colors must be carefully coordinated when worn with other colors. The shades appear delicate when combined with darker colors.

Navy combines well when worn with red, lavender or pink, gold, and is perfect with white.

o Sorting by Seasons

This is an easy one. The four major changes are: fall, winter, spring, and summer. Most of us divide our clothing into two groups. Fall and winter wear can be grouped together, and the spring and summer wear grouped together. Old items can be replaced as each new season begins.

o Sorting by Fabric Choices.

Most of your fabrics are selected by seasons or the climate. As often as possible, choose versatile, easy care fabrics that you can wear all year round. These would include your lightweight wools, denims, jerseys, and all natural fibers like silks and cottons. And when selecting your fabric choices, always buy good quality. Quality fabrics wear well and last much longer.

o Sorting by Styles

Your style is determined by your personality, your individual taste, and what looks good on you. No matter what style you choose, your clothing must reflect your sense of self-esteem or confidence. And always match your style to the occasion for which you wear it.

The colors, the fabrics, and your style make up the largest and most important parts of your fashion wardrobe. Not too many women can afford to have a completely new wardrobe every season. So, in order to be fashionable and savvy from one season to the next, stick with the basic colors in your coats, dresses, pants and suits. Then you can always add an updated top, scarf or accessory to be savvy in your style.

How to Combine Clothing - Silk Ties, Dress Shirts, Accessories, And Co

Throwing on a black necktie over a plain white shirt might be fine for some days at work, but you've got to admit that you can't leave the house looking like that too often. Working with shirts, ties and suits is more complicated than it would seem at first. Rules have to be followed, to some extent, so that you can look great and unique in a shirt and tie without looking weird or comical.

Safety First!
It pays to get familiar with the 'safe' choices first because they are the options that you can wear to any occasion, from the boardroom to the bar. Combinations considered safe might not look as stylish or fashionable as other more daring combinations, it is almost impossible for you to make a fashion faux pas with the safe choices. Besides, these basic pairings will help you make your own combinations in the future.

Look at your suit, your tie and your shirt individually, and then see if any of them have prints or patterns. The safest way to put those three together is to have a print, if any, on just one of them. For example, wear a solid colored shirt and a plain suit if your tie already has a print. If, on the other hand, your shirt is patterned, a solid tie and a simple suit will yield a very safe outfit.

In terms of color, you could also go with combinations that are recognized as safe. For almost all cases, this means a light colored shirt paired with a tie in a much deeper or darker shade of the same color. A light pink shirt should thus be paired with something like a burgundy or maroon tie. Finish off the look with a suit in neutral tones like beige or classic colors like black or navy.

Exploring Your Other Wardrobe Options
Once you've gotten comfortable with wearing colors on your shirts, ties and suits, you may want to begin exploring other combinations that come with a bit of additional risk but with a lot of extra style. When playing around with these new combinations, it is a good idea to have a friend with you who can give an editing eye to your experimental look.

Before anything else, grab a color wheel to help guide you in trying new combinations of colors. A color wheel will tell you if the colors you are considering are analogous (beside each other on the wheel), a complementary pair (across each other on the wheel) or a complementary triad (they form an equilateral triangle on the wheel. It is these colors that will work together most of the time.

Once again, think of your outfit as composed of three different elements - the suit, the shirt and the tie. Each one should be in a color that, when put together, will form a combination that fits into one of the three 'good' categories mentioned earlier. This will result in a look that's livelier and more colorful than usual, yet is still cohesive and stylish.

The key to getting these color combination right is some practice and a little bit of study. You might not get it right the first few times, but keep trying and you are bound to achieve that well put together look.

Buy Quality Bargain Ski Clothing

If you and your family are ski fans, then you understand how expensive ski clothes can be and how fast your children can grow out of them. Ski clothing is only part of the equipment that you need to go skiing. You also need skis, poles, snowboards or ski boots. While you can rent some of these items when you get to the ski location, the clothing is something that you need to bring with you. Your ski clothing should not cost as much as your ski equipment or your ski trip! Consider shopping for used clothing for your family to find great pieces at affordable prices. Every year families sell or donate their used ski clothing and equipment, giving you the opportunity to find great bargains if you know where and how to search.

You can find used ski clothing in consignment shops, thrift stores, resale shops and online. There are several factors to consider and strategies to implement to ensure that you find great used ski clothing at affordable prices. Also consider selling your used ski clothing to re-sell shops, online or to consignment shops to earn capital to replace the items for yourself and your family.

To start, consider affordable brands. If there are clothing brands that you are familiar with or favor, call ahead to physical stores to find out what their selections are. When you are shopping online, you can type in the search engine 'Used (Brand Name) Used Clothing' to find a list of possibilities. When you are on an online auction site such as Ebay, you can also type in their search engine to pull up clothes that come up under that particular brand.

If you are looking for high quality, or newer ski clothing, start your search at an online auction site, online consignment shop or physical consignment shop. Each of these store types will often sell newer clothing in better condition than other used clothing stores. Be sure to ask questions, search for recognizable brands and compare prices before you make your purchase from a retail store. The disadvantage to shopping online is that you cannot try the clothes on and you may not be able to return them. Use a reputable site and read as much as possible about both the item and the Seller before completing your purchase. Also be sure to factor in the shipping costs into your overall price to ensure that you are getting the discount that you were searching for when shopping online.

When you are able to visit a physical store, take any family members that you are buying ski clothing for with you so that they can try the items on. If you have growing members of your family, consider a slightly bigger size and if there are multiples sizes available, buy a few sizes of the same item for each person. The prices will often allow you to do this and if the clothing is outgrown, you can re-sell it or donate it the following season. Review the clothing for any defects and if it is something minor like a missing button or a stain that you can easily fix, purchase the item at a deeper discount and fix it yourself.

Shopping for used ski clothing can be a great solution to stock up for your family ski trips at affordable prices.

How to Find the Perfect Fashion School

Are you interested in having a career in fashion? If you are, there is a good chance that you may be interested in attending fashion school. While it is more than possible to make money as a fashion designer, a fashion seller, and a fashion consultant without having a degree, you will find that having one may improve your chances of running a successful business.

As nice as it is to know that a degree from a fashion school or at least a certificate of completion may improve your chances of having a successful business, you may be wondering exactly why that is.

If you are interested in being a professional fashion designer, you may already know that thousands have tired to do so and failed. Unfortunately, many of those individuals ended up making many simple mistakes.

By getting a degree and the training that comes along with it, you are less likely to make some of these common mistakes and you may learn many other helpful tips and tricks. The same can be said for running a fashion store or working as a fashion consultant.

Now you that you know the importance of attending fashion school, you may be wondering what it the best fashion school to attend. When it comes to finding the best fashion school for you to attend, there are a number of important factors that you will want to take into consideration.

One of those factors is the type of school you would like to attend. Fashion schools and fashion training courses come in a number of different formats. For instance, there are traditional two and four year colleges and universities where you can walk away with a degree. On the other hand, there are training schools that provide you with a certificate of completion, which is, in a way, like a degree.

Location is another factor that should be taken into consideration. If you are preparing to graduate from high school, you may find it easier to find a fashion school to attend, as you may be more willing to relocate than someone who has roots already established or a family.

If you want to stay local, you should still have a number of fashion schools or at least fashion training courses to choose from. In all honesty, the larger the city that you live in or around, the better your chances are of having more options.

Perhaps, the easiest way to go about examining all of your options, in terms of fashion schools, is by using the internet. When using the internet, you may want to think about performing a standard internet search with a phrase like fashion school.

If you would like to stay in a particular area, you may want to incorporate that city or town into your internet search, as it will provide you with more tailored results. You should thoroughly examine the websites of all fashion schools that you come across to see what type of training is offered and how much that training costs.

You may also want to ask those that you know for recommendations or any information that they may have on fashion schools. Although the person that you are speaking to may not necessarily have attended a fashion school, they may know of someone who has had.

Colleges and training schools are often something that is regularly discussed among friends and acquaintances; therefore, you never know what information you can get through word of mouth. In addition, if you are still a high school student, you may want to think about speaking with your guidance counselor for assistance.

As a reminder, attending fashion school is something that is optional, especially if you are interested in starting your own business. Despite being optional, you may still want to take the time to examine fashion schools. You may actually be surprised with how much you can learn by attending one.
